2016 marks the release of Inside, an isometric and monotone-colored puzzle platformer from Danish studio Playdead. That same year also marks the time we witnessed the team release a new title as well. For those unfamiliar, the developer through their unique approach to the platforming genre requires dubious amount of time to ring out masterpieces like the latest Inside and the previous 2010 title Limbo.
Although I shouldn’t say that the team has been completely radio silent, it was back in 2018 that the team released the duology of titles to Nintendo Switch. Following then, Playdead has been off the radar. That was until recently as samples of their next unnamed project have surfaced online last year. Even more, another look actually emerged this week.
In a post from the developer on Twitter looking for positions to be filled at the studio in Copenhagen, Playdead released a 15 second snippet of its next game. You can view clip in the tweet below:

The video itself is brief – only a quarter of a minute. Adding on, there’s no audio revealing any subliminal hints from the game either. The only indication that this is in motion is from the waving antenna being pushed from the wind and the minimal current of dirt being blown in the air from the foreground. The character is virtually static the entire time on screen.
Dissecting the job listing themselves, Playdead is looking for candidates to take roles such as ‘Senior 3D Artist’ and ‘Senior Systems Programmer’ at the studio. Even then, this still does not share any further details on the enigmatic new property from the team. Regardless, these positions are confidently expected to be set in place for the unannounced project.
Also, fans anticipating for the game will still have to wait some time unfortunately. Reinforcing the pattern of the team’s prior work, Playdead only releases one game every generation essentially. Inside launched nearly three years into the lifespan of the Xbox One/PlayStation 4, so it is assumed that this new game will do the same sometime leaning towards 2022.
What do you think Playdead has in store for this new game?
