For obvious reasons, much of meat concerning the Activision Blizzard acquisition steers attention towards Call of Duty. But, there is nothing to worry about as of this week as Sony Interactive Entertainment & Microsoft signed on an agreement to continue releasing the series on PlayStation. However, the document does reveal other Activision IP could go missing from the platform as new releases ship.
Concerning what is on the way, there is plenty of retired franchises fans are hoping to see be resurrected. Previously, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer expressed his excitement towards the properties that could come in the deal for Xbox. Additionally, the even pressed on his interest to see Starcraft being a tentpole series once more for Blizzard Entertainment following the deal being processed.
Howbeit, it could be possible that Blizzard Entertainment is already hacking away to make a new Starcraft. According to a now-deleted exchange from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, he answers one follower on Twitter that the series is busy at work, thanks Insider Gaming. “[Microsoft] won’t need to revive StarCraft,” Corden responded. And when pressed specifically on the topic of StarCraft III, he answered with a simple “yep.”
As for the current whereabouts of Blizzard Entertainment’s talent, it was already announced that the developer already has a new IP in the pipeline. The project is dubbed a ‘survival game’ and appears to be another fantasy-based experience. Even more, the Overwatch 2 sector is also rewiring its efforts on the PvE story experience, it announced in May.
This week, Blizzard Entertainment is also taking new steps with a select number of games. At least for Overwatch 2 right now, the free-to-play experience is launching on Steam later this August.
