While developer Naughty Dog is recognized for its masterclass work on IPs like Uncharted & The Last of Us, the firm has been coined as a re-release studio for some time now. This year alone is releasing two versions of its latest release, The Last of Us Part II. Later in April, The 2020 release officially hits PC. And in July it will be bundled with The Last of Us Part I in a ‘The Last of Us Complete: Collector’s Edition’ bundle this coming summer.
As for new on The Last of Us, it appears that the developer might officially be done with the IP entirely for expanding its universe. Game director Neil Druckmann told Variety that plans for another sequel is not in the works at Naughty Dog. What is, however, on the way is an entirely new IP – Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Tati Gabrielle stars in the new project after her work previous with Naughty Dog.
What is unknown about the game is the planned release for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. From its initial announcement, there was no confirmed understanding on when the game will be available. But according to Jason Schreier on ResetEra, the game is not aiming to release in 2026 as many were hoping to be the case.
Schreier in response in a thread said: “I’m pretty sure I said they were both going to be very early teases. Neither of those games will be out next year.” This comes after the recent new information that emerged on The Witcher IV. During an investors call, CD Projekt Red confirmed the game is aiming to launch after 2026 as well.
For those looking for a nearing release, there is one long-promised title that was reported to ship this year. After its initial teaser in 2021, Quantic Dream announced its new project prematurely – Star Wars Eclipse. InsiderGaming did a follow-up in 2023 sharing that internal projections expect the title to arrive in 2026. You can read the full report by heading here.
