What was believed to never come is now already a reality: the latest mainline entries for Atlus’ Persona IP is available across modern PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox consoles. Even more, Atlus is going a step further with a modern remake of the classic Persona 3 with ‘Persona 3 Reload’. The new title is scheduled to release in early February 2024.
What raises an eyebrow is the lack of a Nintendo Switch version. Ahead of the official announcement, retailers leaked Nintendo Switch versions of the game. However, there is no sign of the version anywhere. With the previous Persona 3 Portable on the platform, many were expecting the next project to also hit Nintendo Switch at launch too.
According to director Takuya Yamaguchi and producer Ryota Niitsuma in an interview with Atomix, the version is not in development currently. “Since we started conceptualizing everything that was coming in Persona 3 Reload, we decided that there would be no version for the Nintendo Switch. Of course, the idea is there, but it’s a matter of discussing it with the team and seeing what they think about it and we’ll see what happens.”
Howbeit, there might be a greater reason for the Nintendo Switch missing this version of Persona 3. In a post from leaker @MbKKssTBhz5 on X, Atlus & P-Studio are actually planning to release Persona 3 Reload on the Nintendo Switch successor. “Because P3R will be on the next Nintendo hardware. And Metaphor too,” the user says in a response.
Looking ahead, there is more that Atlus plans to introduce for its legacy Persona titles. In one interview, it shares a desire to offer the same remake treatment to its first two Persona titles sometime later in the timeline. You can read the full report by heading here.
