For fans who were underwhelmed by the upcoming, straight-to-DVD Doom Annihilation, do not worry as the Franco brothers are planning to bring a drama based on the development of the original 1993 title to the living room on the USA Network.
Entertainment outlet Deadline shared that James and Dave Franco have been ordered by the television network to produce the pilot for the newly announced drama. Titled ‘Masters of Doom’, the basis of the forthcoming pilot will be based on the book from 2003 titular book written by David Kushner. For those who did not read the novel, the plot follows the journey of both John Carmack and John Romero on the development of the iconic Doom game.
Executive Producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (The Maze Runner), and Eric Robinson (Resident Evil series) have been confirmed for the positions through The Gotham Group. Along with WGA award winner Tom Bissel as Writer and Executive Producer for the coming series. Bissel is recognized through his work writing for games such as the Gears of War and Uncharted series.
Master of Doom is said to initiate USA’s 2019’s pilot cycle for this year, meaning that the pilot should be expected sometime later in 2019. Deadline nor the Franco brothers have revealed when exactly the upcoming drama will debut on the USA Network.
In other Doom-centered announcements, Bethesda revealed that the highly anticipated sequel, Doom Eternal, will be coming out this Fall on November 22nd.
