Jet Set Radio Successor Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Announced, Features Composer Hideki Naganuma

For fans of the very nostalgic Jet Set Radio series that has not be reiterated or returned to for well over a decade or almost two now – there is some news you might want to know about. Developer Team Reptile has announced a successor that might quench the thirst those who have been awaiting Sega’s move to bring new life to the Jet Set Radio series.

Announcing Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, the game holds a heavy resemblance to its influencers from the art style on the screen to the animations as well as the gameplay that made the classic Jet Set Radio series so unique and inhabit a cult following. You can watch the announcement trailer for the game in the video below:

“Team Reptile brings you Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, 1 second per second of highly advanced funkstyle. In a world from the mind of Dion Koster, where self-styled crews are equipped with personal boostpacks, new heights of graffiti are reached,” the synapse for the game reads on Steam. “Start your own cypher and dance, paint, trick, face off with the cops and stake your claim to the extrusions and cavities of a sprawling metropolis in an alternate future.”

In addition to the love letter that Team Reptile is sending to the Jet Set Radio fans with the announcement of this new game, the studio has also unveiled that the original composer – Hideki Naganuma – will also be involved in mixing the soundtrack for the new project.

Team Reptile is most notable for their 2014-released project, Lethal League. The game is a 2D brawler which evidently shares the same art style for the coming Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. The studio offers a brief FAQ on the game’s Steam page unveiling that the game will be a story-focused release, but states “no further comment as of yet” regarding online integration.
