Despite the series absence for practically the entirety of this console generation with only a remastered trilogy of last-generation’s entries of titles, Bioshock is officially underway with a new installment. Publisher 2K announced the conception of a fourth installment with the founding of dedicated studio, Cloud Chamber. Howbeit, not much has been shared since the initial announcement unfortunately.

Reflecting on what could perhaps be the new Bioshock game, many fans went to its predecessors to hypothesize on its setting – which is essentially the bread & butter of the franchise. Presumably, the new title could make its lengths through Rapture once again or reiterate on Bioshock Infinite’s Columbia: all are decent guesses as for the new title will lead.

However, the series with this new entry might be leading to a new location altogether. This presumption comes from a recently discovered job listing for Cloud Chamber disclosing the efforts to make a new setting. Asking for a Lead Environment Modeler, the developer holds ambitions to create a new landscape for the upcoming Bioshock title.

We want you to set the example, leading effort to help us breathe life into a new and fantastical world. Together, we will set the stage for a stunning narrative and systems-driven experience.

Descending further into the job posting, Cloud Chamber also asks for ambitions of the applicant who is familiar with organic structures and the ability to bring concept to reality. “Create visually appealing, 3D models of natural and architectural elements based on concept art and/or photo reference while extracting the best / brightest details and exaggerating those to a point of caricature,” the listing asks.

Additionally, the studio is also in search for an individual with an understanding in architecture and the foundations of the art outside of video games alongside history with fine art to illustrate conceptual scenes into the game. While the firm bullets these traits as recommended talents, it does illustrate the team’s endeavors to follow in suit to prior and the art direction that the preceding games went the extra mile to achieve.

This past February during a financial quarter earnings call, 2K parent company Take-Two Interactive disclosed that the coming project from Cloud Chamber will not be arriving anytime soon. In fact, the firm told that the title is still “several years” away. You can read the full report by heading here.
