Today, Microsoft announced major layoffs with 10,000 employees being affected across the company which has impacted the Xbox gaming side including 343 Industries. It was reported by Bloomberg that the studio behind Halo received layoffs in multiple departments including the talented veterans who worked with Xbox for over 10 years.
The company had to restructure the team which caused for some of these moves at 343i. Here is what studio head Pierre Hintze had to say:
“We made the difficult decision to restructure elements of our team, which means some roles are being eliminated.”
Creative Director and a veteran in the Halo franchise, Joseph Staten has left 343 Industries and will rejoin Microsoft publishing. In case you didn’t know, Staten helped turn the development of Halo Infinite’s campaign around after he joined the studio in 2020.
The 10,000 Microsoft layoffs also had an impact on people within Bethesda Game Studios who were working on Starfield. It’s a difficult day for those affect by these moves and the future of Halo could be interesting in the coming years.
In September, Bonnie Ross announced she was leaving 343 Industries after being with the studio for many years and at that time they restructured the leadership roles.
