Scalebound was first teased by creator Hideki Kamiya back at E3 2014 and we heard nothing about it until Gamescom this past month. An Xbox One exclusive, Kamiya spoke in a recent interview with Metro regarding the game’s development and origins.
In the interview, Kamiya stated that Scalebound was originally going to involve dinosaurs, but that it changed as they developed Bayonetta first. Only once Bayonetta was complete did they begin Scalebound development again. According to Kamiya, he wants Scalebound to be known for showing what the Xbox One can truly do:
So in terms of, say, Scalebound, which is an exclusive title for Xbox One, my ultimate goal and mission is that this will help appeal to, and also heighten the value, of not just my game but also the console, and show the power of what Xbox One can do. Towards the players, my commitment and my promise to them is that you’re buying a game that we created and you’re paying for it. I need to make sure that you get the value, and hopefully even more, for the amount that you’ve paid. So I think that very simply fact is what keeps us going, because our partners see the commitment that we put into the games that we’re making.
Mr. Kimeya stated that his work won’t be complete until that’s done and he also left the door open for a future colloboration with Capcom as well. In Scalebound, we control a character named Drew who fights side by side with his dragon companion Thuban. Through cooperative techniques and gameplay strategy, both Drew and Thuban must find a way to use their relationship to defeat their enemies. Scalebound is due for release in Holiday of 2016 exclusively on Xbox One.
