When it comes to cheat codes in the current landscape of gaming, this ethic to twist the initial intention of the game’s basis is actually a pretty rare sighting in contrast to the titles that introduced the alternative generations before. However, there is an exemption for one arrangement of prompts that have stuck well after cheat codes faded into the fabric of time.
I’m talking about the notorious Konami Code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. Although cheat codes are virtually unheard of nowadays with games that we play today, the Konami Code is surely one that have yet to properly settle. This can confidently be validated as games like Epic Games’ Fortnite or Psyonix’s Rocket League rewards players with special bonuses.
However, it comes with unfortunate new that creator of the Konami Code,Kazuhisa Hashimoto Kazuhisa Hashimoto Kazuhisa Hashimoto, has been pronounced dead at the age of 61.
Derived from the name associated with the developer, titles ranging from Castlevania, Contra, and Metal Gear have implemented the code to orchestrate different scenarios or provide the player with a slight push it being health or in-game items. Even more, the Konami Code has gained enough influence that it seeped into a plethora of other titles as I mentioned already.
Seen from the tweet above, Konami has confirmed the death of Hashimoto last Wednesday on February 26, 2020. It is also reported that a colleague, Yuji Takenouchi, also verified the passing of Hashimoto. As for the reason of death or where he was discovered has yet to be disclosed.
In rememberance of Kazuhisa Hashimoto and his impact on the gaming industry with the creation of the Konami Code, Rectify Gaming and its staff thanks him for the legacy he left the world.
What is your most memorable moment using the Konami Code?
