Developer Kojima Productions as we are all aware now is the aftermath following the abrupt departure of Hideo Kojima from operating at Japanese publisher, Konami. Developing projects through an internal studio like Metal Gear and Silent Hill, it was never truly clear as for the reasoning for his sudden leaving from his role at the company back in 2015. But according to Gameblog.fr, the outlet has unearthed the reason.
Transcribed by VG24/7, it was reported that the French website that Kojima when developing then-upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was shifting funding from the project to the subliminal demo, P.T. The demo when played unveils itself at the end to be a sample for the now-cancelled Silent Hills starring Norman Reedus.
However, following the publication of the article, Kojima Productions went public to denounce the claim as “categorically false” on Twitter shortly after.
In the same writing, Gameblog.fr also disclosed that developer Kojima Productions had also established an camaraderie with Konami. In that, the outlet reported that the relationship between both firms formed well over two years ago, stating the mutual agreement to be “cordial”. Enough so that the two parties could potentially collaborate in a coming project in the future.
However, alike the claim made regarding Kojima’s leaving at Konami, that statement has also been condemned by Kojima Productions as well. But it does not go much as surprising as this is now the third instance of rumored partnerships between both companies have been debunked previously. Earlier in March, it was reported that Konami denied any involvement with a return of the canned Silent Hills project involving Sony Interactive Entertainment.
It was later again reinstated to be false by Hideo Kojima himself later on in May. When speaking with Livedoor News, Kojima disclosed the lingering rumor to be “completely false.” You can read the full report by heading here.
