Earlier this year, Microsoft made a tough decision to close more of its studios including Tango Gameworks, the developers behind Hi-Fi Rush. Today, it was announced that Microsoft has reached an agreement with publisher Krafton Inc, the company most recognized for PUBG Battlegrounds, to keep the Japanese studio alive.
The acquisition of Tango Gameworks also includes the rights to the developer’s latest big hit, Hi-Fi Rush.
Krafton left a statement regarding its latest deal with Xbox (Thanks Windows Central):
“Krafton Inc today welcomed the talented people of Tango Gameworks to their team, marking a exciting moment in the company’s global expansion and its first significant investment in the Japanese video game market”
“This strategic move will include the rights to Tango Gameworks’ acclaimed IP, Hi-Fi RUSH.”
“As part of this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects. KRAFTON intends to support the Tango Gameworks team to continue its commitment to innovation and delivering fresh and exciting experiences for fans.”
What does this mean for The Evil Within or Ghostwire Tokyo?
It seems that the acquisition of Tango Gameworks will not include other IPs that the studio is known for like The Evil Within and Ghostwire Tokyo. According to Windows Central, those IPs will remain with Microsoft.
This acquisition won’t impact Hi-Fi Rush’s availability on Game Pass either.
Before being shut down, Tango Gameworks did have plans to pitch a Hi-Fi Rush 2, and with this acquisition, that will be a reality.
