The most recent State of Play presentation happened this past Thursday with many having lower expectations after what was showcased at the first live streamed event more than a month ago. One reveal that really grabbed fans tremendously was Square Enix’s presence with more footage of the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Since the project’s reveal going back nearly four years ago now at E3 2015, when the fan base could expect to eventually play one of the franchise’s most praised titles re-imagined for modern platforms was ultimately shelved after CyberConnect2 revealed that development for the game had to be restarted from scratch.
On top of the short glimpse presenting the progress the studio made since officially reconstructing the remake, the teaser closed with a caption reading “More to come in June”, implying a potential full trailer or even demo this coming E3.
Looking back at January Square Enix did detail in their yearly financial report to expect a major announcement from this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, which is next month believe it or not. Leading to speculating two potential culprits: Crystal Dynamics Avengers project or the prolonged FFVII Remake. Seeing now that there’s tangible evidence of the game’s development in public eye, it seems that might be what the publisher’s President Yosuke Matsuda was referencing back at the start of the year.
Though this does have a strong foundation for the supporting the game’s appearance to be at E3, ruling out the Marvel-partnered title isn’t completely out of the picture either. That however, we will have to wait until E3 to see if true or not.
Square Enix’s Press Conference got revealed just last month and will be taking place on June 10th at 6 PM PST / 9 PM EST.
