To those that are familiar with the Nintendo Switch and the raw power that the hybrid handheld console offers, there is not much to boast in terms of the capabilities that the system can offer. Although the device is proving to be impactful based on its first-party releases for sure, expecting 4K resolution or 60 frames per second is not the forte alike on competing systems over on Xbox and PlayStation.
Most recently, Nintendo Switch has proved this topic to be accurate with the release of Apex Legends. Although the game is not the most demanding of battle royales, it is sure to be more than what the hardware is capable of proved by the caveats shipped with the version on the Nintendo eShop. But, that is not the same for Fornite.
In fact, the game is receiving an upgrade to increase both the performance and the resolution output, says Epic Games.
The update provides significantly improved resolution both in handheld and docked modes, resulting in images that are less blurry, without loss of performance. The update also provides a more consistent framerate, with fewer hitches, resulting in a smoother experience overall.Â
As for how this is executed, the developer presses that Fortnite is now relying on a dynamic resolution to scale the visual output to keep a static framerate. However, due to the change, the overall pixel count is said to remain consistent in the new update regardless. In total, the game now counts about 38 percent more in pixels on-screen for handheld mode.
Before, handheld mode consisted of 1000×560 while docked stood at 1390×780. But now, the update welcomes a 1170×660 resolution for handheld with docked finding an increase resolution to 1560×880. For those worried about the update’s size, Epic Games clarifies the patch is only 140 MB.
Similarly, Epic Games offered a similar tweak on PC as well. In that, the developer administered an update which allowed mid-tier & low-tier builds to find higher performance counts over previous versions. You can read the full report by heading here.
