Overtime, unionization within the video game industry is becoming to be the norm. While not entirely embraced by many firms within the market, some major companies are already welcoming the effort. Over at Microsoft, its recently acquired Zenimax has ruled a supermajority vote in favor for the employee-focused initiative for unionization at the firm.

Additionally, the same can also be said for Activision Blizzard as well. Prior to the Microsoft acquisition plans, Raven Software did pursue unionization as the work environment at the Warzone empire began to slim down in quality. Even more, whilst the purchase for the $69 deal is still being processed legally, the Xbox firm shares to stand behind the idea for unionization at Activision Blizzard.

In a new reveal this week, it is revealed that Sega America is another firm to rule a supermajority vote for unionization for its employees. The Allied Employees Guild Improving SEGA (AEGIS) is to form with assistance from the Communication Workers of America (CWA). You can view the announcement below:

“We, the workers of SEGA of America, are unionizing as the Allied Employees Guild Improving SEGA (AEGIS) with the Communication Workers of America (CWA). We are united in our belief that by banding together, we can secure a future where we are empowered to advocate for ourselves, and for our colleagues. As employees at SEGA, our goal is to create high quality games and cross-media experiences for our wide, devoted fanbase. Our lack of control over our own working conditions has greatly hampered this goal,” the letterhead reads.

“In the interest of delivering the best quality products to our fans, we must have the opportunity to make decisions that impact our working conditions. We must ensure that SEGA remains competitive in a growing industry. Amidst wages that are below the industry average, weak benefits, and lack of paths to promotion, unionization is our answer.

“Our workers and our audience deserve games made by people who make a living wage. In our quest to reclaim our collective power, we have built bridges with fellow workers from across our company in an effort to understand our shared issues, and those that are unique to each department.

“As one example, nearly a third of SEGA’s long-time workers still lack full-time status, paid time off, proper training, or even bereavement leave, despite dedicating years of their lives to SEGA. While these issues may affect each department to varying degrees, we come together as a united front and are committed to establishing a culture of equity, diversity, and open communication. Together, we will ensure fair treatment for all employees, regardless of position.

“Our demands are already in line with SEGA’s core values. These measures will serve to strengthen our company and improve the quality of the games we produce. As we secure better working conditions for SEGA of America, we look forward to continuing to collaborate with SEGA branches worldwide.

“We at AEGIS-CWA are proud to unionize alongside our many friends and peers within the gaming industry, and we will protect one another as we journey to make SEGA of America a healthier and happier place to work overall. We ask that SEGA of America Inc. Leadership recognize our democratic right to organize without interference by voluntarily recognizing our union, without delay, and committing to a policy of neutrality that holds to their stated code of conduct to “respect our employees’ right to organize for labor-management consultation.”

What are your thoughts on Sega of America the next firm for a unionization supermajority vote?
