This past weekend’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare open beta ended just yesterday as players from all major platforms fought it out in the cross-play playtest of Infinity Ward’s approaching project. Although we cannot jump back into the game’s multiplayer for at least another month, Infinity Ward did however give the first glimpse of the game’s single-player campaign mode.

During today’s PlayStation State of Play presentation, the development team dropped a surprise trailer for the game’s story segment to give players a grasp of what the world this installment is based on really is about. While we do know that Call of Duty icon Captain John Price will be involved in the light spiritual reboot, the core direction the story follows was then left in the dark.

The synopsis for the story campaign reads:

“In a desperate mission, Captain Price and the SAS will partner alongside the CIA and the Urzikstani Liberation Force to retrieve stolen chemical weapons. The heart-racing fight will take you from London to the Middle East and other global locations, as this joint task force battles to stop full-scale global war.”

Direction of the game does look to take a more personal route this time around for Infinity Ward’s coming title as Price does show to be more involved with characters and the overall story arch involves cutscenes rather than the graphical rundown prior to each mission as the original Modern Warfare trilogy implemented.

Previously, Activision announced that this coming Call of Duty will be breaking the ten-year streak of platform timed-exclusive content through the publisher’s marketing rights deal: this meaning that forthcoming content will be arriving to all supported hardware simultaneously rather than divided between a month wait for opposing platforms.

What are your thoughts on the latest Call of Duty trailer?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 15, 2019.
