Fans of WWE video games are in for a treat as 2K has released the WWE 2K24 gameplay trailer, showcasing the new features, modes, and Superstars that will be available in the upcoming installment of the popular wrestling franchise.
The trailer starts with a bang as Roman Reigns and LA Knight clash in the new Ambulance Match, a brutal contest where the objective is to incapacitate the opponent and lock them in the back of an ambulance. The trailer also gives a glimpse of the 2K Showcase… of the Immortals, a mode that celebrates 40 years of WrestleMania history with iconic matches and moments from the past and present, featuring legends like Hulk Hogan, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Ultimate Warrior, and The Undertaker, as well as current stars like Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and John Cena.
The trailer also reveals the updated Backstage Brawl arena, where players can use various weapons and objects to inflict damage on their rivals, such as a stop sign, a soda machine, a trash can, and a control room glass. Another new match type that is shown is the Casket Match, where the goal is to put the opponent in a coffin and close the lid, a match that is synonymous with The Undertaker, who is seen facing Shawn Michaels in the trailer.
One of the most surprising and exciting features that the trailer reveals is the Special Guest Referee Match, where a third Superstar acts as the referee and can influence the outcome of the match. The trailer shows Randy Orton, Solo Sikoa, and Kevin Owens in this match type, with Owens wearing the referee shirt. The trailer also teases a special guest that will be revealed soon, and fans are speculating that it could be Muhammad Ali, who was announced as a special guest by WWE/2K earlier.
WWE 2K24 will have three editions: the Deluxe Edition, the Forty Years of WrestleMania Edition, and the Standard Edition. The Deluxe Edition and the Forty Years of WrestleMania Edition will be available digitally worldwide, and physically in the US and select territories, on March 5, 2024, while the Standard Edition and the Standard Cross-Gen Digital Edition will be available worldwide on March 8, 2024. The game will feature a roster of over 200 Superstars and Legends, and more information on the new match types, the 2K Showcase… of the Immortals, and the roster will be shared soon by 2K.
