Treading back as far to E3 2019, developer Traveller’s Tales officially announced Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. However, since its public inception led the game to continuous pushed release dates. Following the original unveiling, the Lego anthology of Star Wars films was told to ship later on in October 2020 later on.
But prior to new information giving a specific release date for the new fall launch window, Traveller’s Tales shared that it is too ambitious of a launch timeframe for the project and pushed it to spring 2021. As part of a reassurance for the game, the team told the game will deliver native versions for Xbox Series systems alongside PlayStation 5. Even then, that was still too soon for the team which lead to an dateless delay for the game after that.
The wait for details officially ended on the status of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga this Wednesday during Gamescom Opening Night Live. In that, Traveller’s Tales shares a new trailer listing a spring 2022 release date for next year. You can watch the gameplay trailer in the video below:
“It’s massively encouraging to see how you guys are enjoying the trailer. I can say that you have seen literally the tip of the iceberg and we cannot wait to share more with you in the future, GONK!” Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Game Director James McLoughlin shared in a statement following the trailer going live.
What explains the meat of the continuous delays for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the scale of the new release. Unlike prior games, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga shapes to be more than what fits in the definition of a “standard Lego title” and instead breaks the boundaries with realistic lighting/reflections and an even wider galaxy to explore like never before in previous Lego Star Wars games.
Previously, it was rumored that Warner Bros. Games is looking to sell both NetherRealm Studios alongside Traveller’s Tales. However, corporate leadership at the firm pressed that the speculation is not true leading forward. You can read the full report by heading here.
