Lifehacker: Here Are Some Workarounds For The File Size Bug For Cyberpunk 2077

While the wait has become excruciating for Cyberpunk 2077 after three delays from the game’s initial April release set for this past spring, the day finally arrived for the game to officially hit store shelves. However, while the project was projected to be a potential candidate for game of the year, it looks that Cyberpunk 2077 is packaged with more problems than promises.

For one, the game is facing several withdrawals on last-generation Xbox & PlayStation as the game performs to the point of unplayable and cannot meet visual expectations either. Atop of that, bugs are also apparent throughout the game which could soil the magic the experience is expected to offer. Thankfully, CD Projekt Red is working to issue refunds following the PlayStation Store delisting that took place in the past few days.

But on PC, the game is as marketed with little to no problems alike its console counterparts. That was, until players learned of a new issue altogether. According to users online, if exceeding 8 MB for a save file, the game in unable to load the client and will permanently corrupt the save. CD Projekt Red is aware of the issue and tells that there might be plans to resolve the problem at hand.

Unfortunately the save is damaged and can’t be recovered. Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials.

If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it. The save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches, but the corrupted files will remain that way.

While the new hurdle for PC players looks to be an inevitable fate, there are ways to workarounds it. In a survival guide curated by Lifehacker, the publications offers three tips to follow: craft lightly; watch your playtime; harbor a backup save. In Cyberpunk 2077, much of the space is made up of assets and other items you gather in-game. But you can also craft said items. So if you limit how much you make, that can ease tensions towards the 8 MB mark.

For the amount of time you play, there is also data that will be added which increases the save file for Cyberpunk 2077. So for your sake, make sure you use that consciously as mindlessly lingering could cost you the entire experience. And finally, to remain in the game, backup your save often so if it meets this fate – you can reload your progress to avoid the issue.

Do much of these issues are on CD Projekt Red’s watch list that it also affects upcoming projects. That includes the planned DLC add-ons for Cyberpunk 2077 which the developer issued to be unsure if the content will be releasing as scheduled. You can read the full report by heading here.
