Loki Season 1 Director Along With Margot Robbie Attached For Live-Action The Sims Film

In just short of two years, Electronic Arts & Maxis’ The Sims has transitioned to a live-service experience, it appears. Back in fall 2022, nearly a decade since its release The Sims 4 went free-to-play. Of course, the plentiful number of premium expansion still required payment. It was not long for game studio Maxis to tease a new installment is on the way, codenamed ‘Project Rene’.

Since then, more has developed on the project. In that, one job listing indicated the game would adopt live-service elements and also be free-to-play. Additionally, online was also said to be on the table. In an interview with RadioTimes, Maxis shared that multiplayer is now on the table for the next The Sims title – whenever that is planned to release.

Now in a recent report from TheInsneider, The Sims is to face a live-action adaptation for the silver screen. For those attached for the production, Kate Herron (Loki Season 1) alongside Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad, Barbie) is part of the new project. Herron is tasked to direct & pen the screenplay whilst Robbie is a producer for the picture.

With Robbie part of the project, her production firm LuckyChap is also involved including Tom Ackerly (Barbie, Slatburn), Josey McNamara (Barbie, Dreamland), and Sophia Kerr (Terminal). Both Roy Lee (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire) and Miri Yoon (Don’t Worry Darling) of Vertigo Entertainment are also enlisted to produce. Electronic Arts is also said to be involved in the creative & producing of this new film.

Previously, The Sims was adapted in some degree for television. Under TBS, Spark’d aired amid COVID-19 pandemic as a reality show for popular creators to compete in creating story characters and settings. You can read the full report by heading here.
