Among the lineage of Goichi Suda titles, the notorious ‘Suda51’ in recent years has shipped out re-releases of his previous work. Namely, the first two No More Heroes titles returned with Nintendo Switch ports in fall 2020 followed by PC later on in summer 2021. Additionally, publisher NIS announced that The Silver Case 2425 will be resurfacing on the Nintendo eShop as well.
Looking forward, Suda in one statement has referenced the cult-followed Lollipop Chainsaw to be making a return in some form; likely a re-release. Especially since the game was delisted on Xbox 360 gaining no window for backwards compatibility support, it is saddening to realize. Suda in a more recent statement told older IPs are on the horizon for the developer’s plans for the coming decade.
In a new announcement from Dragami Game, it reveals Lollipop Chainsaw is to receive a remake come 2023. CEO Yoshimi Yasuda posted a letterhead on the matter via Twitter which you can read below:
“We, the original development staff on Lollipop Chainsaw, think of the game as very precious to us, and did not want to leave it in limbo, where players who want to play it cannot. As such, we purchased the Lollipop Chainsaw intellectual property from Kadokawa Games, and decided to develop a remake,” Yasuda shares.
“We have already contacted Warner Bros. about development, and are being support by them on this endeavor. One thing we have to tell fans of the original game is that even though the original team are working on the remake, there will be elements that are different from the original.” Yasuda goes on to note licensed music will be swapped out for new tracks and the project will take advantage of the newer hardware it is releasing on.
