Although Crystal Dynamics’, Eidos Montreal’s, and Square Enix’s combined project that is Marvel’s Avengers did corral in plenty of anticipated fans with the Marvel property for the coming AAA title, there are some criticisms worth noting for the game which many potential consumers did not agree with. For instance, while minor, the title’s ambition does not keep itself stable in the terms of performance on current-generation hardware.
Crystal Dynamics confirmed the game could not do so on the marketed hardware and it is still uncertain how the game will differ on the soon approaching next-generation systems. Additionally, followers got a sour taste in their mouth upon discovering that the battle pass system for Marvel’s Avengers applies to each individual hero.
Combined with other hiccups that pass around by word from mouth, the game is reported to perform poorly which hurts publisher Square Enix tremendously. According to Astris Advisory Japan KK founder David Gibson, a Japanese market research group, the Marvel’s Avengers sold at the lost costing the Square Enix roughly #63 million dollars.
Marvel Avengers- it looks like the total cost of the game is closer to $170m-$190m given they only expenses 70% of cost in the qtr plus marketing costs. Why someone didn’t say stop post the multiplayer beta will remain a mystery . Square are adamant they can make a recovery ….

Reading above, Gibson relays that development for the game cost Square Enix well over 100 million dollars rounding into the $170 million to $190 million range. Gibson also reveals that the title despite its eager marketing, likeness of the Marvel brand only resulted with about 3 million copies sold in total as of this weekend.
Although Marvel’s Avengers is a game that many surely asked for years prior leading up to the game’s announcement, the execution as well as the ambitions of the project led to unsatisfactory result for the Japanese publisher. And while a next-gen version is underway for next year, it is currently uncertain if that can undo the damage already done.
Recently, Crystal Dynamics announced that the next-generation upgrade for the game, originally scheduled for holiday 2020, will be ushered to a later 2021 launch. The same is also dished out for the Kate Bishop add-on as well. You can read the full report by heading here.
