One of the biggest on-going rumours for the past few weeks was that Microsoft would announce a brand new web browser to act as a replacement for Internet Explorer on Windows 10 devices. Today that was finally confirmed as Microsoft revealed ‘Project Spartan’, it’s next generation web browser built with greater interoperability, reliability and discoverability. It takes a brand new look and feel (very similar to what’s found on Chrome) and has a host of new features built for Windows 10.
Some of the new features include the ability to annotate right onto web pages using keyboard and pen and easily share it with friends, powered by OneDrive. It also includes the reading mode from Modern IE but it’s had much more improvements by displaying articles in a very simplified, easy layout to make sure your reading experience is distraction free. You can also save articles for reading offline.
Cortana is built right into Spartan with full voice features and integration even by typing requests such as “Weather” into the address bar. She can also be used to find certain things on websites such as a restaurant’s menu or maybe a contact number for a hotel.
Project Spartan is expected to be released to Insiders in a future build of Windows 10, not immediately on the phone however. The browser is also expected to also be available on Xbox One however that wasn’t specifically said yet. Another rumour was for the browser to feature Chrome-like extensions, again, nothing on that front has been announced.
