Microsoft Announces xCloud Support For Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S Coming Later This Holiday

In the ongoing campaign from Microsoft to usher players to experience their favorite games on Xbox Game Pass through different avenues like PC and now mobile cloud streaming, the latter initiative is making shockwaves over to its console counterparts. Previously, Xbox lead Phil Spencer did comment that plans for console support from xCloud “is not years away”, which indicates that the service is expected to drop more so in a periodic manner fairly soon.

More specifically, fans are interested to see how it will play out. While it is enough to convince users on saving hard drive space already, the bigger inquiry is if it will excuse needing to jump to next-generation machines. In a later statement from Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief Will Tuttle, the service is to bring Xbox Series X|S exclusives like Redfall & Starfield to Xbox One thanks to xCloud.

Now in a new announcement from Tuesday’s Xbox Gamescome Livestream, Xbox Series console and Xbox One is expecting a forecast of xCloud later this holiday. You can watch the reveal trailer in the video below:

“Cloud gaming on your console further reduces your time to fun! All you have to do is navigate to Xbox Game Pass and look for games with the cloud icon. Next, click the “Play” button and get to gaming. It’s as simple as that!” Jake Rosenberg, Senior Program Manager at Xbox explains for xCloud being enabled for consoles.

Currently, the plan for xCloud is for the service to be a testing ground for Xbox Insider rings later in the fall before being publicly implemented later on in holiday 2021. Rosenberg goes on to confirm that the plan at release is to target 1080p resolution with a 60 Hz refresh rate when xCloud drops for console later this year.

Previously, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella acknowledged the impact on xCloud on the market during the company’s financial call back in June. Nadella referenced the service to already welcome “millions” of users since its inception atop of the release for PC & iOS around that time too. You can read the initial report by heading here.
