Microsoft is planning to bring their Xbox Live service to other platforms including the Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. By bringing this to more devices it will “enable game developers to connect players between iOS, Android, and Switch in addition to Xbox and any game in the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs.” The network is growing and will be getting much bigger expanding from 400M gaming devices and a reach over 68M active players to over 2 billion devices with the release of their new cross-platform XDK.
Microsoft plans to announce this at GDC next month and you can see everything here, but the description carries on:
“- Xbox Live players are highly engaged and active on Xbox and PC, but now they can take their gaming achievement history, their friends list, their clubs, and more with them to almost every screen.
– This will break down barriers for developers that want their communities to mingle more freely across platforms. Combined with PlayFab gaming services, this means less work for game developers and more time to focus on making games fun.”
GDC will be taking place March 18-22 where this will be presented with further detail and the title of the presentation is: “Xbox Live: Growing & Engaging Your Gaming Community Across iOS, Android, Switch, Xbox, and PC (Presented by Microsoft)”
How do you feel about this moving forward?
