While many fans were still learning about new information about the Xbox Series X following its late December announcement, Microsoft periodically handfed details regarding the next-generation system at the time. One being the automatic HDR support for legacy titles which were not intended for the feature years prior. Additionally, the Xbox firm also shared how to expand its fast loading technology.
Although there already is a 1 TB SSD inside the console, Microsoft alongside Seagate unveiled an in-house built SSD expansion card that can be inserted from behind the console. Running for $219, it is asking for a lot compared to a regular HDD as you can get close to 8 TB with the same price. Users also have the ability to buy an adapter for internal SSDs which offer the same speed or better depending on the make.
On Thursday, Microsoft announced to be shipping more expansion cards with other familiar sized. In that, both 512 GB and 2 TB will be options to purchase alongside the original 1 TB card.
At the launch of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, Designed for Xbox announced the close collaboration with Seagate to expand next-gen storage with the 1TB Seagate Storage Expansion Card. “The Seagate 512GB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S is available for pre-order today from Walmart in the United States for $139.99 USD (US Dollars) and will launch mid-November,” Wang adds. “The Seagate 2TB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S will be available for pre-order in November for $399.99 USD and will launch early December.”
Microsoft goes on to illustrate how simple it is to install the expansion card. In comparison to PlayStation 5, it requires some disassembling for the system to utilize a M.2 SSD which was patched in for the console. You can read the full report by heading here.
