What might have seen like a while ago was only this past December that Microsoft initiated 2019’s Game Awards ceremony with the announcement of the company’s newest console, the Xbox Series X. Following the release of the title for the next generation of hardware from the firm, users across the internet have been speculating and deciphering any means of information to unearth what might be new from Microsoft.

The following week, Xbox head Phil Spencer did go on to clarify that the new generation of Xbox will play as a reshaping of the brand as the ‘Series’ label only marks one of the few models that will release later on. However, concerns of what the specs might be for the approaching Series X and any other details have yet to properly be disclosed; left as conjecture for the time being.

Leading to today, Spencer returns with a new post on Xbox Wire discussing what the new generation will mean for fans and for Microsoft. Among already discussed information, Spencer reiterates the conversation on the console’s architecture regarding the AMD Zen 2 & RDNA 2 structures. Validating that the Xbox Series X will offer four times the amount of processing power being equipped with 12 TFLOPS of GPU.

Spencer then goes into detail to disclose that the Series X Variable Rate Shading (VRS) is implemented through different means: instead of processing through the GPU directly, the hardware utilizes certain aspects on characters and environment textures to provide better resolution and performance for the software. Raytracing also gets some attention as Spencer shares to be introducing the advanced support with DirectX technology for convincing and accurate display of lighting and reflections.

For the tangible results provided from the home-built console, the Xbox Series X offers new features alongside returning elements already on the Xbox One. The SSD storage for starters will provide better load times and extend world sizes beyond what we are accustomed to currently. Quick Resume returns as well, but the Series X will instead provide over a handful of running software to be supported at a single instance rather than one at a time.

Xbox controllers have will also receive an update with Dynamic Latency Input (DLI). The feature will further control response to be more accurate and offer instant feedback for immediate input from what is displayed on the screen. Variable Refresh Rate (VVR) in conjunction with the already pre-existing Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) is also shared to dispense the game’s visuals without sacrificing the potential of tearing. Adding on that 120 frames per second will also hold as the new standard for the coming generation.

Adding on to the three generations of backwards compatibility on Xbox One, the Series X is told to go the next step with Xbox One support as well. Either through digital means or being physically-owned, two decades of titles supported through Xbox will be playable on the newest hardware. As for upcoming titles, Spencer announced Smart Delivery which will further benfit the player in continuing their relationship with Xbox. Launching for Halo Infinite, those who purchase the game on Xbox One will also receive the game on Xbox Series X – similar to Xbox Play Anywhere on PC.
