At Microsoft’s Xbox, the firm is facing a new era ahead of itself. Partly this is thanks to the recent Activision Blizzard King acquisition passing earlier this fall. Additionally, it also plays from the recent rearrangement of leadership as well. While Matt Booty obtains new power with his tenure overseeing Xbox Game Studios now with Bethesda as Pete Hines exits, Sarah Bond is also throned as head of Xbox also.
Additionally, the firm is establishing its release schedule according to CEO Satya Nadella. He elaborates that Xbox is “doubling down” on this effort now with more focus on what its teams can release. Elsewhere, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer went on to press that the foremost emphasized approach to these games is the passion teams carry to chase after a release, he told in a post-deal interview.
Recently, Spencer spoke with Windows Central sharing that the firm is adamant to support its first-party studios with what passion is chasing – reiterating on the previous statement.
There has to be passion in the team behind the projects. That doesn’t mean that the team has to be the original team, every time. I’m not one — and maybe this is just my approach — I’m not one to come in and take a franchise from a team and remove them from the discussion or development process on how something new gets built.
“You’ve seen from our history that we haven’t touched every franchise that people would love us to touch — Banjo fans, I hear you.But it is true that, when we find the right team, and the right opportunity, I love going back to revisit stories and characters that we’ve seen previously.” Spencer also adds on the new teams from the ABK deal too. “In the case of Blizzard games specifically, really what I’d want to do is work with Blizzard’s leadership to see where they have passion.
“I say all this, but I’m not at all suggesting that Blizzard doesn’t have passion for reviving franchises too, I know that from my visits to the team. They absolutely have the passion in this area.” Previously, Spencer elaborated that one game the firm acknowledged remains dormant with an outcry for a return is Starcraft. But, nothing has been confirmed on a revival of the series.
Elsewhere when speaking to Window Central, Spencer went on to clarify that plans for a migration to Nintendo or PlayStation for Xbox Game Pass is not in the playbook. This comes after a flood of articles that misinterpreted a previous report. You can read the full report by heading here.
