When it comes to the Xbox 360, many players around the globe view the console as one of the most influential releases for the entire industry. And with Microsoft still working to meet the same reach that its predecessor met years prior, many things from the system are becoming full circle more recently. One is the ongoing repairs of classic Call of Duty servers for legacy titles like Black Ops, Black Ops II, and Modern Warfare 2 being active once more.
Additionally, Hyperkin is pulling on the heart strings of fans with its newest Xenon controller. The firm is rekindling the love of the Xbox 360 controller with improved features, and it only costs $49 for the wired throwback gamepad. Previously, there was some discourse for the future of legacy Xbox 360 games after delistings were active for select titles. But, Microsoft clarifies that these game can still be purchased on Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S stores.
Now this week, it is confirmed the entire Xbox 360 Marketplace is to officially shutter next summer. In July 2024, options to purchase via online will be no more for games, music, and television & films.
This November will mark 18 years since Xbox 360 launched. It was a generation-defining console that invited many to jump into gaming for the first time and connect with friends around the world. Over the years, we’ve heard stories of players who found a lifelong love of games, starting with the likes of Kameo, Gears of War, Fable 2 and other Xbox 360 classics. We’re thrilled so many fans keep playing their favorite Xbox 360 games on Xbox 360, or on newer consoles via Backward Compatibility.
On July 29, 2024, Xbox will stop supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace […] Related to this change, the Microsoft Movies & TV app will no longer function on Xbox 360, which means TV and movie content will no longer be viewable on your Xbox 360 after July 29th, 2024.
Dave McCarthy, Xbox Player Services Corporate Vice President
“This change will not affect your ability to play Xbox 360 games or DLC you have already purchased. Xbox 360 game content previously purchased will still be available to play , not only the Xbox 360 console but also Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices via backward compatibility,” McCarthy adds.
“What has not changed is our commitment to preserving your ability to play the content you have already purchased on your preferred device, which means we are committed to supporting Xbox 360 gameplay for the foreseeable future – and you will still be able to play and re-download previously purchased content and connect with friends.”
Even more, Microsoft encourages players to still play these games. If not owning the titles digitally, physical options are still there. For online play, select games are available to jump onto servers as long as the publisher keeps it up. For other content, purchased movies & TV shows can be viewed via Movies Anywhere, the Xbox TV app, and Microsoft Movies app respectively for console & PC.
