Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer says the company’s original goal was to sell 200 million consoles, now that sounds like Microsoft has some confidence. In a recent interview with Stevivor, Spencer reveals Microsoft’s original plans.
“The goal that the team had was to figure out how could we sell 200 million game consoles,” says Spencer. “We’ve never seen a console sell that many units. The biggest individual console, the PS2, did 120 million or something like that.”
When Don Mattrick was at the head of Xbox he made it seem that the console was all about TV and all this other great things the Xbox One can do such as play games. Most fans before launch were not viewing just as a gaming console, but once Phil took over he turned that around.
Spencer believes the Xbox One needs to “succeed with gamers first before we get any permission to go do anything else.”
“When we came in after two-and-a-half years ago and started running the Xbox program,” continues Spencer, “I centred us back on not trying to become something other than a game console. You don’t earn the right to be relevant in other categories of usage for the console until you’ve earned the gaming right, so let’s go make sure that’s what we deliver”
There is no doubt that Phil Spencer has turned the Xbox One around with it being the lead seller the past 2 months and with Scorpio coming out the fans have more to choose from. The Xbox UK Sales are up 1,000% since the Xbox One S launched.
