Its that time of the week. Yes its Partner Interview Sunday (that will catch on one day, I hope.) But this week we have someone who works with a big and probably of the most well known creators in the Minecraft community: Noxcrew.
I will be talking to the PR and Marketing Manager at the famous Noxcrew: Lauren. I first wanted an introduction to see what her name was and where she works. She said: “I’m Lauren and I work with Noxcrew.” This was a very short and sweet reply. But I wanted to go more in depth for her role on the team. Does she only do what her title suggests or is there more to the map than the block meets the eye? Once asked about her role, she repsonded:” My job title is PR & Marketing Manager, but for the most part I look after the majority of our social media content, our website and the descriptions for our Marketplace content too. I also dabble in voice acting from time to time!”.
By the sounds of it, she likes to do voices and be the voice for people and communicate with people. But as Noxcrew has been around on the marketplace since the launch of it, a lot of maps have come (and some have left) but I wanted to see if Lauren had a few favourite maps on the marketplace. She responded with: “There are so many! Papercraft Adventure from Jigarbov Productions is definitely a favourite for me, mainly because of how much it stands out from the rest of the maps on the Marketplace. Dwarven Mining Company also springs to mind… That map was a real game changer when it came out! I think it inspired a lot of people to get more adventurous with their content. As for Noxcrew maps, we had so much fun making Elf Patrol, so that has to be one of my favourites!” They are good maps. DMC was a big map to be released for several reasons but that is for another article!
Lauren has helped out with multiple maps while working with Noxcrew but I wanted to see if there was any that she would like to expand on for the future. She said:”We’re definitely going to expand on the GDL universe – we’ve actually got something in the works right now! GDL is the company that features in our Java map Terra Swoop Force, as well as Monsters of the Deep which we released last summer. We love Dr Alan Columbus so we’re always throwing ideas around about what sort of weird situations he might get himself into next.” Expanding that specific series is a good idea. That series is what put Noxcrew on the level of quality that we see today.
But I wanted to know what Lauren first thought of the marketplace when she heard of it. Lauren said to me: Simply put, it was just so exciting. When we found out that we were going to have the opportunity to make Minecraft maps for a living, as cheesy as it sounds, it was a dream come true. After Terra Swoop Force was released, most people in the Noxcrew were getting to the age that they were going off to university or getting full time jobs, and so they had less time for making maps. Now we all do this for a living and it’s honestly just brilliant!” It certainly does sound like a dream come true for you. It came at just the right time for the Noxcrew team as well.
Marketplace partners have been introduced since May/June 2017 but I wanted to see if Lauren had a few personal favourites. She said: “Good question! Well, my favourite team in term of the content that they produce has to be Imagiverse. You can always rely on their maps to be outstanding in terms of their quality and presentation. They’re lovely people too! My favourite people in general though… there are so many wonderful teams! Pathway Studios, Jigarbov Productions and Pixels & Blocks are all great friends of ours.”. They are all amazing teams. They have all worked so hard to produce new and exciting ideas for pieces of content for people to try out.
It is always important for any business to look into the future so they know what is coming up and so they can plan ahead. I asked Lauren if Noxcrew has any plans for the future as well in terms of content. She responded with:”Well towards the end of last year we spent a lot of time on our Creative Toolbox series, but this year we definitely want to get back to making adventure maps. We’re excited to become more ambitious with our creations as Minecraft becomes even more customisable.” It looks like if you are a fan of adventure maps, Noxcrew has more in the works which is exciting.
While I asked Lauren about the future, I never specified a timeline. But I did ask her about the “next few months”. She responded with:”There’s not much to give away unfortunately, we don’t have any solid plans right now. Everyone in the Noxcrew has the opportunity to pitch ideas for maps that they’d like to work on next, so we’ve always got concepts floating around, but as yet nothing’s set in stone.
The next map that you’ll see from us will be our final (for now) Creative Toolbox, the map after that will be the adventure map that we’re currently working on and after that we’ll just have to wait and see! Don’t be surprised if you see a sequel for one of our original maps out this year though.”Its a shame that the Creative Toolbox maps are ending for now anyway but it is also exciting to see what is planned for the future! They seem to be dedicated to adventure maps.
Finally I asked Lauren what was her Minecraft Guilty Pleasure (Everyone has one right?) and she said”… I don’t think I have any guilty pleasures in Minecraft. I don’t play often but when I do, it’s plain old vanilla and I spend my time mining or searching for cats!! I can quite happily live in a hut made of dirt as long as I have some pets.” Looks like Lauren is a pet lover. I wonder what is her favourite type of pet?
