It was in mid May that Swedish developer Mojang announced to be rebranding its identity to better associate itself with how the firm has evolved since its conception over a decade ago. With the new titling also be unveiled the same day as Minecraft’s 11th birthday, the team when announcing Mojang Studios wanted consumers to recognize there is more to come outside of its evergrowing title.
And while the firm is planning to map out coming projects in the future later on, Mojang Studios still has plenty underway for Minecraft. This week, the developer revealed that Minecraft will once again be making its debut on yet another platform, PlayStation VR. It is no stranger to virtual reality, but this is the first sign of support for console which makes the reveal more enticing.
In a new blog post, Mojang Studios tells that plans for a PlayStation VR feature was already a mindset for the team and began cracking down on it for when it ships later in September.
Once we’ve finished the final bits of polish to the experience, the PS VR support will arrive via a patch for the main Minecraft game. Everyone who has Minecraft on PlayStation 4 will get that patch automatically. Download that patch and you’ll get access to the new Minecraft VR functionality. Of course, you’ll need a PS VR setup in order to use it.

But what truly is a relief from the announcement is that support for Minecraft VR is not a separate client, but instead just an update to the current version of Minecraft for PlayStation 4.
It is quite a surprise how long Minecraft got the greenlight for virtual reality as it has been supported on PC for a handful of years. One game that came out of left field with a VR announcement is IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 You can read the full report by heading here.
