This past April, Mortal Kombat 11 turned one year old and content for the title seemed to be slimming down after the conclusion of the game’s Kombat Pass the month prior. But things began to brighten the horizon for the fighting title as NetherRealm Studios announced Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath – a new story expansion following the conclusion of the base game.
The add-on being the first continuation of story for Mortal Kombat as a franchise, fans could only expect a possible outturn for more DLC in the coming future. But how would the team top that with the additions of Fujin, Sheeva, and Robocop? Well, with a new version, of course. Announcing Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, the new iteration of the base game introduces an influx of features that a single update cannot offer alone.
The announcement shared the spotlight with NetherRealm Studio’s announcement for the Kombat Pass 2; you can watch the trailer in the video below:
Fan-requested elements such as cross-platform play is now on the horizon alongside cross-generation purchasing as well for the newer systems. Previously, cross-play was supported, but only between Xbox and PlayStation. Now, the support will be equal among all systems that can play Mortal Kombat 11.
Additionally, those who already own the game on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 can carry their purchase over to the new consoles thanks to today’s announcement. When migrating over to the newer hardware, players will be greeted with higher resolution outputs and a performance overhaul that is unachievable on current platforms.
In the new announcement trailer as you can already tell, three new characters will be added to Mortal Kombat 11 via Kombat Pass 2: Rain, Mileena, and John Rambo. You can read the full report on the newest trio of fighters by heading here.
