As many are familiar, developer Naughty Dog is quietly working on its next major release. And while The Last of Us Part II has been out for nearly three years, the series is facing a new surge in popularity recently. That is to blame for the recently concluded first season of its HBO show on HBO Max. Early on, it was confirmed a second season is already greenlit for the TV series.

Additionally, the overall IP is expanding according to Naughty Dog last summer. In that, a new multiplayer experience is said to already be in development. While details were slim on when the game will ship or how it will differ from the original Last of Us multiplayer experience, it is for certain to be a generational improvement nonetheless understanding how long ago the first iteration came to players on the PlayStation 3.

Recently, eagle-eyed fans online uncovered that there is an interesting use of wording for one job listing posted by the developer. On the game studio’s website for a associate multiplayer quality assurance tester/development support position, the posting asks for certain credentials for the role. In particular, the temporary assignment names “working knowledge of PS4 and PS5 systems.”

Now with the PlayStation 5 more than two years-old, it appears that Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning to release the game as a cross-generation title. Howbeit, this is not the first from PlayStation Studios. To name a few: Horizon Forbidden West, Sackboy A Big Adventure, God of War Ragnarok, and Gran Turismo 7. The games were first introduced as next-generation titles, but still remained to release on the older system.

This is not the only game from Naughty Dog on the way. The team is currently cleaning up on its upcoming port for The Last of Us Part I to PC. The game was originally slated to arrive earlier in 2023, but received a sudden delay to late March instead. You can read the full report by heading here.
