A few weeks ago Sony announced a smaller PlayStation 5 model that is reduced in volume by more than 30% and weight by 18-24% compared to the initial PS5 console. This new design will eventually replace the original version of the PlayStation 5 that was released in 2020.
Sony hasn’t revealed when the new PS5 design would be released to the public besides giving a November 2023 window. What we do know is that Sony already revealed they were doing a Modern Warfare III bundle and from what we have seen and heard, these PS5 bundles are already shipping out to retailers.
Comparing the slimmer PlayStation 5 to the original, it looks like it will take up less space on store shelves. This is always a great sign for retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, etc.
The image features two PlayStation 5 physical editions and from what you can see from the image, the new PS5 box is different in height and width. Retailers who receive the Modern Warfare III bundle early are not allowed to put it out on the sales floor until November 10, 2023.
From what we’ve heard, the new PlayStation 5 weighs less than the original, but “not by much”.
It’s very possible the new PlayStation 5 design will come out before that date.
