New PlayStation 5 Patent Suggest Possibility To Earn Trophies For Games Before The Feature’s Introduction

As of late regarding the discussion of backwards compatibility for the latest Xbox & PlayStation consoles, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S proves to still be in the lead for its efforts to offer prior generation titles with niché enhancements only unique to the latest hardware. In that, the firm can tap into the guts of select games and incorporate FPS Boost to offer framerates and better optimization for titles that arrives on the Xbox One; recently those from Bethesda.

However, the talk over on the PlayStation side of things are not so bright. Already, Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ryan commented that the architecture team did not implement the feature for PlayStation – PlayStation 3. But, the issue only proves to be even graver for long-time PlayStation owners in a new report. As per The Gamer, Sony will be closing PlayStation 3, PSP, and PS Vita storefronts this summer: more importantly, purchases for the respected hardware is said to be lost after the action is performed.

But in a new finding from ResetEra user nolifebr, the poster has discovered on PatentScope a new filing from Sony Interactive Entertainment. The diagram provided reveals to be a feature which allows games to earn trophies for titles that were around well before the tool was introduced. You can view the image below:

The description for the patent reads as such: “A computer-implemented method assigns one or more trophies to a user. A game is emulated in response to a request from a client device. A trophy trigger is detected during emulation of the game by comparing a memory value of the emulated game to a predetermined value and assigning the one or more trophies to the user based on the detected trophy trigger.”

As of reporting, there is no suggestion pointing towards games of PlayStation generations earlier than PlayStation 4 coming to PlayStation 5. However, there has been an adjustment to the Trophy system previously. In that, a new coat of paint has been applied to the feature ahead of the PlayStation 5’s release which you can read in full by heading here.

Are you hoping the patent suggest more backwards compatibility is coming to PlayStation 5?
