PlayStation 5 programs have brought extreme value to its users for those that invest a lot of time into the platform. Efforts like PlayStation Stars is a shining example of your time put in to show its value. Not only can users be granted digital collectibles and other goodies, but there is also the ability to redeem points through this program to make purchases as well.
However, it appears that this feature will be facing new restrictions moving forward. In a new email sent to users that participate in PlayStation Stars, the ability to purchase PlayStation subscriptions will be removed entirely. Not only that, but points will also expire at the end of the month from when they are earned.
“New Points earned will expire at the end of the month plus 12 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance. Points earned prior to October 24, 2024 will continue to expire at the end of the month plus 24 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance,” the email reads. This change has been marked ‘effective’ as of October 24th.
“Effective March 1, 2025: The definition of ‘Eligible Purchases’ will be updated to exclude all subscription payments made on PlayStation Store (including any initial or renewal subscription payments for PlayStation Plus or any other subscription service), which means that Points will no longer be earned on subscription payments.” Now, of course, users will have to purchase their services with real-world currency if they were using this approach previously.
This is not the only favored feature being removed on PlayStation 5 recently. According to a report from PlayStation Lifestyle, the celebrated Activity Resume mechanic on the console appears to be gone altogether. You can read the full report by heading here.
