More than a year ago now, it is no secret the number of people that engaged in the ongoing trend of “sending it to the moon” with Robinhood users tossing around ‘joke stocks’ & ‘meme coins’. When virtual currency like Doge Coin was at an all time high breaking the internet as Tesla CEO Elon Musk entertained the havoc that followed the rising price on the gag.
Even more, the same followed with GameStop as the stock erupted and prices flew beyond what is realistically possible for the company. Via Reddit, users congregated on what stocks to chase after to inflate the price and even more – land a hit on hedge fund CEO who were shorting said stock. Enough so that even WallSteetBets’ Ryan Cohen was appointed a position at corporate GameStop to work on restoring the company.
Now recently Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Black Bear Pictures rolled out the first trailer for ‘Dumb Money’, a comedy drama that follows the real-life story of what sparked the rise surrounding the rise in $GME. You can watch the trailer in the video below:
“Dumb Money is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (yes, the mall videogame store) into the world’s hottest company. In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it,” the description for the trailer reads.
“When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.” Dumb Money features as stacked cast with director Craig Gillespie (Cruella, Fright Night) at the helm with Lauren Schuker Blum, Rebecca Angelo (Orange is the New Black), and Ben Mezrich (The Social Network) to pen the story.
Casting includes Paul Dano (The Batman, Swiss Army Man), Pete Davidson (King of Staten Island, Bodies Bodies Bodies), Seth Rogen (The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sausage Party), and America Ferrera (Barbie, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Aaron Ryder is also attached as a producer under Ryder Picture company who produced films such as Donnie Darko, Memento, The Founder, and Arrival.
