Rockstar Games officially released the beta for the online portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 back in November with small fixes and tweaks to Red Dead Online such as balances and additional gamemodes to keep players occupied as they await the finished version of online. Recently Rockstar announced that a new update is bound for their western action adventure title next week which will include a new armor event, challenges for fishing, and a sack full of new emotes/cosmetics.

The billboard feature coming with this update is the new mode titled ‘Fool’s Gold’, a free roam event that pits one player against the entirety of the online lobby. But the twist is that the public enemy player is given a set of armor that protects them from an extreme amount of gunfire and has the objective to see how long they can stand before being shot down.

Fishing will also be expanded upon with new challenges that differentiate based on the fish’s type. When participating in each challenge, the player is given items for the respected fish varying from specified lures to rods as well as bait. Hostiles will also be blocked out of your challenge once you head to the required body of water to trigger the challenge.

Two new weapons have also been showcased for the approaching update:

  • Evan’s Repeater
  • Rare Shotgun (Double Barrel)

Additions to pre-existing modes like Showdown will also receive new missions named Up in Smoke, Spoils of War, and Plunder. Also a variant on races under the alias Target Races which will be exclusive to PlayStation 4 users first. And also will receive a free Jawbone Knife also.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
