For users that might have already forgotten or simply over glanced, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal’s Marvel’s Avengers has shipped well over a month ago. And while the game initially received quite the influx of players at the title’s release, there are some change of plans that the developers decided to implement ahead of coming add-ons for the September-shipped game.

In a new blog post, the firms share that the first DLC for Marvel’s Avengers – Kate Bishop – will now be arriving later in 2021 rather than the initially promised October release for the character. But not only that, the next-generation versions for Marvel’s Avengers is also being ushered to a new release date in the following year as well.

We’ve also made the decision to shift our PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be.  More details to come.

Until then, however, you’ll be able to continue playing the current-gen (PS4/Xbox One) Marvel’s Avengers game on next-gen platforms to take advantage of their powerful hardware, be it via inserting a physical disk or redownloading the game. Two of the most obvious benefits of this are improved frame rates and faster loading times.

Scot Amos, Crystal Dynamics Studio Head

While not much details can be spared regarding when the next-gen versions will ship next year, Crystal Dynamics does reiterate on what was said previously: how cross-play works among consoles. In that, the studio elaborates that users on PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 can play together alike Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S. However, the feature will not bridge the two platforms.

While plenty of 2020’s plans for Marvel’s Avengers has been shuffled around, the same cannot be said for Hawkeye’s addition. Originally announced this past July, the super hero will be added sometime during the game’s 2021 roadmap. You can read the full announcement for the character by heading here.
