Next Mario movie will be titled ‘Super Mario World’

Nintendo had already announced that the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be released on April 3, 2026. They only said at the time that it is a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros and never officially said the name yet. However, it looks like NBCUniversal has revealed what the name is early. 

From the exclusive post by NBCUniversal, they mention new films from Universal Pictures that will eventually come to stream first on Peacock. In the section talking about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, they mentioned “Super Mario World”.

This would indicate the next Mario movie will have a completely different name, and it makes sense as that was the first game to feature Yoshi in 1990. At the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, the post-credits scene featured the iconic Yoshi egg along with the sound bite “YOSHI.”

Nintendo has not made the official announcement yet of the movie’s name. As always, we must take this with a slight grain of salt. 

There are a couple films in the works for Nintendo IP. We now have the Mario movie sequel and The Legend of Zelda movie, which is expected to hit theaters in 2027.
