The National Hockey League has announced a very unique crossover with MultiVersus, an upcoming fighting game from Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games. The full version of MultiVersus will be released on May 28 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. So this crossover is happening at the perfect time.
This collaboration will be able to showcase the sport of hockey in a different way with a fully animated presentation of an actual NHL game between the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights. This will be an alt-cast of the actual game, so if you want to watch the traditional matchup you can still do that.
The action will take place on April 14 at 3:30 PM ET only on Max or TruTV
The MultiVersus characters that will be featured include Bugs Bunny, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Velma, Shaggy, Steven Universe and Finn the Human. All of these characters are playable fighters in MultiVersus and they’ll be playing a fully animated hockey game that will be synchronized to the actual hockey game using the NHL EDGE tracking technology.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen this in sports as of late. The NFL is no stranger to doing this for their regular season games as they did one featuring Toy Story. Although, this is the first time we’ve seen a major sports league do a crossover with a video game in this way.
The goal for these unique broadcasts is to keep the younger audience engaged and maybe introduce them to the sport of hockey from a unique perspective.
