To begin 2024 the most talked about and played game was Pocketpair’s Palworld. As the popularity grew, so did the backlash as the game was obviously inspired by Pokemon using very similar-looking assets with a slight twist.

Today, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company announced they have filed a lawsuit against Palworld developer, Pocketpair.

It was announced in a press release that Nintendo Co., Ltd together with The Pokemon Company, filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair, Inc. on September 18, 2024.

The release also states “This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.”

Nintendo says it will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its IP rights including the Nintendo brand itself.

No other details or statements have been revealed by Pocketpair or Nintendo regarding this announcement.

Palworld is available on Xbox and PC.

Stay tuned for more updates.
