While the wait for the next The Legend of Zelda title prolongs beyond five years, the announcement following ‘Breath of the Wild’ only took place two years after. At the time, Nintendo shared a cinematic trailer showcasing the new tone the sequel is to follow. Even this new sinister and distorted follow-up did not receive an official title.
By summer 2021, Nintendo scheduled a 2022 release date for the game. However, the firm later on went ahead to push the launch to a later spring 2023 time frame. And by fall 2022, it was then that the title ‘Tears of the Lost Kingdom’ was officially shared. Since then, we learned of its May release date and the official pricing to cost players $69 for the Nintendo Switch title.
But unlike its predecessor, this is not a cross-generation release for Nintendo. In fact, it is solely prepared to release for Nintendo Switch unlike the former which also arrived on the Wii U. And although it showed to shine with its visual style does show to face some limitations for releasing on two systems. But from @Stealth40k on Twitter, Nintendo released a visual comparison of the two games.
Nintendo also release a statement on the two game put side-to-side: “Enjoying the view? In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll have an even bigger world to explore – spanning both the land and skies of Hyrule.” Not only do players get to understand the sheer scale for Tears of the Kingdom, but can tangibly see the improved visual detail included in the full game.
Additionally, Nintendo appears to already drop the ball on post-launch content for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On the official website for the game, it references DLC is planned for the game. Context surrounding simple add-ons or full-fledge story expansion has yet to be revealed for the coming release. Do you see the improvements from the comparison by Nintendo?
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ships on May 12, 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
