Nintendo is releasing an official Joy-Con Charging Stand this October

The Nintendo Switch is now over seven years old and there have been some accessories that have only been made by third-party companies. One of the popular items that these companies have made was charging stands for the Switch Joy-Cons and Nintendo never made their version of it until now.

Today, Nintendo announced the official Joy-Con Charging Stand that will be released on October 7, 2024. It will be able to charge not only your Joy-Cons but also the Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers as well. What’s interesting about their announcement post is that it’s a two-way charging stand.

With the Nintendo Switch Successor rumored to be announced and released by the end of March 2025, many believe the reason for this product now is for backward compatibility. It hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s speculated the current Joy-Cons won’t connect directly to the Switch 2 and they will need a place to charge if that’s the case.

It would make perfect sense if that is the reason for the new charging stand now, but we will have to see when the Switch Successor gets announced. The Switch 2 is reported to have magnetic Joy-Cons as opposed to the rail system now.
