Nintendo Launches Super Mario Party Update Adding Online Party Mode & 2v2 Partner Party Mode

Although Super Mario Party launched back in fall 2018, our review for the game still echoes its authenticity more than two years later. “There were so many minigames that were incredibly addictive, and it’s that desire to want to retry them to push your limits that makes them so good,” our critic wrote at the time. “After all of these years, after a dozen different Mario Party titles, Nintendo still manages to create refreshing minigame experiences. Not once did I feel as if a game was bland, dissatisfying, or lacked creativity.

However, there is some major criticism that lacks for the most recent game in the series as well worth noting. “There is no online Party Mode, and this has been a big complaint for many, including myself.” The reviewer later asserts, “I understand not having an online Party Mode with strangers […] but playing with friends should’ve been a sure-fire idea that Nintendo simply didn’t capitalize on.”

Thankfully in a new update that launched this week, Nintendo reveals that Online Party Mode is now launching in a new update. “On April 27, 2021 a new software update for Super Mario Party became available for download. Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Nintendo Switch console is connected to the Internet,” the support page explains.

Now, more than 70 minigames within Super Mario Party supports Online Party Play. In addition to majority of the game now enabling internet interactivity in the new update, Nintendo also welcomes 2v2 Partner Party Mode as well.

In other news recently regarding Nintendo’s future plans, Nintendo of America CEO Doug Bowser commented on the firm’s plans when attending E3 later this June. While not revealing the company’s plans, Bowser does assert, “We’ll make the virtual format fun and engaging.” You can read the full report by heading here.
