Nintendo Switch Overtakes 52 Million Units Sold, Software Also Shows Impressive Sales

While the current generation of video game console hardware is already coming to an end for the current Xbox One and PlayStation 4, owners of pre-existing systems look forward as to what is next from the companies. And awaiting for these new shells of technology will also illustrate a slowing down in sales, which we have already witnessed for both Microsoft as well as Sony this past year. However, Nintendo on the other hand is still burning in new record high numbers as the platform now exceeds 52 million units sold.

According to the latest earnings call for the Japanese firm, Nintendo has accumulated a total 10.81 million units sold in the last three months ending calendar 2019. While the fiscal year still has two months left of breathing room, the holiday season ended strong on the company’s part. It was recorded that the Switch initially outsold the lifetime sales of the Xbox One in the first week of December, and now the same system outsold yet another preceding platform.

Follow suit the discovery of the Nintendo Switch selling ahead of 52 million units, this also entails that the hybrid handheld console has now sold more units than the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) which debuted back in 1990.

Adjacent from the new milestone that Nintendo achieved for the name-sharing Switch, sales numbers regarding the most popular titles on the platform have also been updated. Revealing that the November-launched Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield have sold a conjoined 16.06 million while the prior released Super Mario Maker 2 and Luigi’s Mansion 3 have sold over 5 million units respectively.

Elsewhere, Nintendo discloses the top selling software on the platform so far inching close to the Switch’s third-year anniversary. Revealing that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has accumulated a rounded 23 million sold followed by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 18 million roughly. Interesting enough, both Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild combat for the 4th place spot on the list at 16 million with Odyssey just making the cut.
