Nostalgic Chex Quest Re-Releases On Steam With New HD Version, Out Now

Back tracking more than two decade during the rise of video games and even more the realm of third-dimensional entertainment on upcoming console hardware, many around from the time period should remember the bevy of licensed projects that shipped to cash in on the at-home systems that kept kids glued to the living room TV. Some content centered around other forms of media such as television or movies primarily, but others happened to be from other acknowledged relevance.

In particular, the food industry. In 1996, PC players can find a new project on the horizon from General Mills’ Chex Mix with the release of Chex Quest. The game shares to be an overly turned down version of id Software’s Doom as the player will find themselves relinquishing aliens by “zorching” and attacking with spoons and sporks. The game even goes the extra mile to mimic the first-person phenomenon by also using the same engine at the time.

Now in an abrupt announcement recently, General Mills announces that Chex Quest will be returning with an updated HD version for Steam to ship this Monday. You can watch the trailer in the video below:

“The Intergalactic Federation of Snacks’ outpost on the remote planet of Bazoik has been overrun by evil cereal-eating creatures from another dimension! These slimy “Flemoids” have taken the citizens of Bazoik captive and it is up to you and the Chex Mix Squadron to free them. Thankfully you have a handy array of “zorching” devices which can send these invaders back to their home dimension so you can succeed in your mission,” the synopsis on the game’s Steam page shares.

Users will playing will have the option to play as six of the featured ‘Chex Mix Squadron’ and can also take the zany experience onto local multiplayer as well. In promotion for the game’s return after nearly a quarter century, General Mills shares that there are specialized multiplayer codes that can be redeemed from branded products or the official Chex Mix Instagram.

With the release of the initially 1996 entry, there could potentially be hope for following releases to receive a remake as well. This includes 1997’s Chex Quest 2: Flemoids Take Chextropolis and 2008’s Chex Quest 3. The cult following of the series has lived on years after and continued to chant for a return of the series, so perhaps there is a possibility if the following stays vocal.
