Rewinding back to 2020, the first major announcement of Obsidian Entertainment during its post-Microsoft acquisition was Avowed. Although unsure what the game will truly be in terms of scale, the comparison insisted a ‘Skyrim-like’ experience with a Pillars of Eternity paint job. And well, not entirely. One of the biggest differences was learning early concepts for the game did plan to feature multiplayer for the title.
However, that of course did not materialize for the current project we know now. Another thing was the visuals used in the game which Obsidian Entertainment has met on improving since the complaint box filled up. Probably the most similarity that both games was that the two were confirmed to launch at 30hz on console. Despite current hardware, the firm did verify this summer to launch with no performance mode.
And with the Xbox Game Pass lineup now headlining Avowed for this month, it begs the question what will be coming in Avowed as per the full release? And with the extra time pushing its release from November to February, it is now confirmed that 60 frames per second is now available for the Xbox Series X version, at least.
“You can get up to 60 [frames per second]”, Avowed game director Carrie Patel answered in a Rapid-Fire with MinnMax. Hopefully, this is the start of a trend for more Xbox Series X|S titles to follow in this pattern. For a solid part of the console generation, improved performance options have been absent for a select number of its titles.
Previously, Redfall was notorious for this despite its fast-paced vampire-killing gameplay. But, Arkane Studios before the cutoff for Redfall’s support did launch the 60hz mode. One game that has still yet to do so is Ninja Theory’s Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga. You can read the full report by heading here.
Are you surprised that Avowed will at least get 60hz on Xbox Series X?
Avowed launches February 18, 202 for Xbox Series X|S & PC.
