On top of the virtual reality news breaking as part of Valve’s Index headset set to launch later in the early Summer, Oculus has also brushed upon their two new models set to release just a month before Valve’s official debut in the VR market.
Facebook-acquired Oculus previously announced their first ever wireless headset with the reveal of Oculus Quest back in September that the wire-free headpiece will be releasing sometime in 2019 for $400. Now the company has announced that Quest as well as the Oculus Rift S will be launching in late May.
Though the Rift S is still wired-bounded, it does remove the more cluttered experience that the older models have as there is only one to worry about. Another advantage given is that the Rift S removes the need for external sensors and its singe cable breaks out into two for other applicable upgrades.
The two are said to release on May 21st: Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S sharing a $399.99 price tag, an additional $100 version for Quest is also up for pre-order which offers a larger solid state drive.
With both industry juggernauts dropping new hardware just a month apart, it’s also worth noticing that Nintendo’s Labo VR Toy-Con Kit 04 dropped just a few weeks ago for Nintendo Switch owners.
